Gerdau Ameristeel Steel Mill property by the Raritan River in Perth Amboy
The covered hoppers are in service, but the blue switcher engine no longer is. In fact I believe the switcher engine has been resting at this exact location for more than six years now, http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=239302&nseq=0 . If this switcher ever had a chance to be put back in service those hopes were likely dashed by the storm surge of Sandy, which would have submerged it to the top of the hood. The mill is adjacent to the North Jersey Coast Line (NJCL), and an afternoon train is seen pushing north across the Raritan River Drawbridge. These newer double-decker cars are nice and sleek looking. Unfortunately, more and more of them are getting plastered with unsightly advertisements. I would be OK with the advertisements if they kept the fares from going up, but I doubt they will.
